Sad Thing

I've had to delete six comments this morning alone which I believe to be the work of spammers. I have added the offending addresses to a banned list.

I assume the list will be largely ineffective... but I'm finding that I'm going to have to be vigilant now.

I wonder if Typepad has implemented anything or can implement anything similar to the MT Blacklist plugin? And I wonder if it would even be effective against attacks like these.

Other alternatives are to allow commenting only for registered users, or to allow no commenting or trackback pings at all.

Advice?

Anyone?

Thoughts?

Brenna at TypePad says for now just ban the ips in your "ban commenters" area under control panel. There is some moral support on the TypePad Users List, but not much more than the aforementioned ban. I don't know what else Six Apart is doing, but probably working on some grander fix.

You've had the same problem?

Yes, the AIDS spam on a post with the title "bad girl." I think they are randomly generated, searching on certain words.

If I knew how to install the blacklist plugin on my webspace, I would. No one -reads- my blog, and yet I get about two spam messages a day. I've banned ten addys, and will probably ban more.

Sorry I can't help. But I feel your pain!
