I'm Sorry About the Spam
There have been a lot of comments made by Spammers.
I won't turn commenting off, because I think comments are important, but I am turning on moderation permanently. I'm tired of useless trash showing up on my pages and getting sent out on my feeds.
It just means that you won't see your comment until such time as I weed through the spam. I intend to do so at least daily, or as often as possible.
This is only unless or until I MT is updated or there is some plug-in which can enable some sort of verification. I'm skittish about requiring people to get a TypeKey account just to comment once in a while.
I'm sure open to ideas. Let me know what you think.

I use Spam Karma on my WordPress blog, it's fantastic! I don't know if there's a port for Moveable Type, though. Akismet is pretty good for spam, I believe there's a MT plugin for it. Check out this article about it: http://bloghelper.is-there.net/handling-spam-on-movable-type/
Hi - HM Passphrase is a comment verification plugin for Movable Type that eliminated approximately 100% of spam for me.

Akismet also works wonders on its own.

I really appreciate the advice—I downloaded the HMPassphrase plugin last night. I uploaded it to my server and activated the tool for my blog.
What I can't figure out is how to modify my individual archive entry template to include it.
None of the changes I have made to the actual form have stuck. I don't understand that.
I might try some other tools, too?
OK. There is now a required field on my comment form. It looks like it's working.
Thanks again to Mercy and Philip!
