Art or Porn?

I think I've figured it out with regard to photographic images that depict female nudity.

If it's art, the woman's gaze must be averted, or her eyes or gaze must be concealed or cropped out of the image.

In porn, the woman is showing emotional involvement. Pleasure, revulsion, anger, whatever it is that someone might get off on. As often as not, her eyes look into the camera lens.

Generalizations, I know--I'm certain there may be notable exceptions, but does this jibe with your experience?

i've seen porn where the female isn't looking at the camera at all, but she is being engaged by someone else in the shot, or slightly outside of it. it's clearly porn. all nude. possibly insertables are present. i think it is more the intent of the image rather than the gaze of the subject within.

here is a question for you. is fetish photography porn?

SLP,

The thing is, I don't see art and pornography as being mutually exclusive.

I was primarily being catty and commenting about some sites I have visited recently that feature "artistic nudes," and the like.

I think art is about form, composition, rhythm and texture. I think art is not about the subject matter.
